Jeff Smoot's Newly Published Book Explains the Consumer Bankruptcy Process from Start to Finish
You may not know it, but Westwood Law partner Jeff Smoot is a well-known author. He's been writing outdoor guidebooks since the early 1990s, and his first memoir, Hangdog Days, published in 2019, was shortlisted for both the Banff Book Award and the Boardman Tasker Prize, the two most prestigious mountain literature laurels. He's also published various legal guides and book chapters over the years, and now a full-length book, Making Bankruptcy Work for You: Navigating the Path to Your Fresh Start, that explains the consumer bankruptcy process from start to finish and how to rebuild credit after bankruptcy. "I'd been writing hiking and climbing guidebooks and lecturing on bankruptcy topics for years," Jeff says, "and realized I had enough material to create a guide to the bankruptcy process. I thought it would be a good resource for my bankruptcy clients." Jeff's book, which includes sample forms and step-by-step instructions, is available on Amazon ($19.95), although he gives a free copy to his bankruptcy clients to help them better understand the bankruptcy process. "I think it will be a valuable resource for people thinking about filing bankruptcy, going through the process, and rebuilding their credit," he adds. "I think it can even be helpful to attorneys new to bankruptcy practice."
